About Equitable Life
Equitable Life was established in November, 1920 in Waterloo, Ontario. The company is a major provider of life insurance, savings and retirement solutions, group insurance and benefits, and wealth and investment management through a network of financial advisers, insurance agents, and brokerage partners such as My Insurance Broker (MIB). Equitable Life has its headquarters currently located in Waterloo, Ontario, the city of its founding.
By the end of its first year in business, Equitable Life had more than $7 million of insurance in force, unparalleled by any other Canadian insurer at the time. By 1968, Equitable Life accomplished $1 billion of life insurance in force. As of 2013, the company has superseded $3 billion of assets under administration.
Equitable Life is careful and relatively conservative when approaching risk, with long-term strategies in mind when conducting business, keeping growth for policyholders and insurance partners in mind. The company is continues to deliver strong financial results time and time again. As recently as 2015, Equitable Life generated a record $810 million for premiums and deposits while reaching an all-time high of $3.5 billion in assets under administration.
With $58.1 million in new annualized premiums, this represents a staggering 13% increase over the previous year, with a further growth of 12% over the past three years. Dividends and equity also increased by 15% and 11.4%, respectively. Sales from all product lines surpassed last year’s results.
As a corporate citizen, Equitable Life is known for giving back considerably to communities in which it operates. Charitable organizations such as United Way have worked with Equitable Life to improve communities and make them healthier and better places to live. In 2015, Equitable Life employees also participated in the Movember fundraiser promoting men’s health, as well as the annual Adopt-a-Family initiative to support struggling local families during the holidays.
