About RSA Insurance Canada

Royal & Sun Alliance (RSA) was founded over 300 years ago as The Sun in 1710 in London, England. Since then, the RSA was formed through numerous mergers, and eventually, the company made its way to Canada in 1833. During this time, fire was a substantial threat to Canadian livelihood, cities, homes, and businesses. As a result of these fires, heavy damages occurred in Montreal and Toronto throughout the 19th century and many insurance companies declared bankruptcy, but not Royal Insurance. In actuality, RSA was praised for its strong financial security and immediate claims recompense.

Today, RSA offers a wide variety of suitable insurance products to tailor to clients’ ever-changing needs; this has helped RSA become Canada’s third largest property & casualty insurance company involved in nationwide personal and commercial insurance. The company now insures approximately one million vehicles and more than 500,000 homes across Canada, employs over 4,000 people across the country, serves over 140 countries around the world, and serves more than 17 million customers globally.

RSA is a large contributor to corporate social responsibility, improving life for local communities and the environment through a multitude of initiatives and business endeavors. In 2014, RSA launched a new five-year corporate responsibility strategy: Making things better together. This initiative encompasses four themes that RSA stands by: Safe, Secure World; Thriving Communities, Sustainable Future, and Responsible Business.

The company maintains partnerships with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Canada, School for Social Entrepreneurs Ontario (SSE), and Women in Canada Crusade (WICC). Also in 2014, RSA introduced a regional program enabling different regions to vote on the top three charities or causes it wants to support; followed by matching $200 to $500 of donations from employees. RSA will continue to grow its business and continue to lead by example for future generations.
