About Intact Insurance
Founded in 1809 as the Halifax Fire Insurance Association, it was acquired by Dutch insurer Nationale-Nederlander (NN) to gain market share in Canada. Intact Insurance was previously known as ING Canada and owned by the ING Group, originally from Amsterdam. In 1991, NN merged with NMB Postbank to create the ING Group. By 2009, the ING name changed to Intact and was a strong publicly traded insurance company with billions of dollars in revenue, annually.
Intact Insurance currently employees more than 12,000 employees and provides coverage and insurance discounts to over five million individuals and businesses across Canada. It is the largest provider of P&C insurance in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador. The company provides its insurance products through brokers and trusted brokerage partners like My Insurance Broker (MIB).
With acquisitions of smaller insurance companies, belairdirect, BrokerLink, and more recently, Metro General Insurance Corporation, Intact continues to further expand its market share into online and niche consumer markets. Intact is ranked highly in customer satisfaction surveys and numerous publications like J.D Power. The company also ranks highly when processing initial claims calls related to call effectiveness and efficiency.
