About Sun Life Insurance
Sun Life Financial was founded in Montreal, Quebec in 1865 by Mathew Hamilton Gault, an Irish-Canadian immigrant who moved to Montreal with his family in search of a better, more prosperous life. Unfavorable economic conditions halted plans of operating. It wasn’t until 1871 that the company commenced operations and by the 1880s, the company expanded globally, before proliferating into 55 countries by 1920.
After 150 years of service, Sun Life continues to prosper, becoming one of the oldest and largest life insurance companies worldwide. Sun Life is dedicated to helping its clients save for the future while offering life insurance to protect them and their families. The company prides itself on its Canadian heritage and ability for international growth that has allowed Sun Life to improve the lives of millions of people globally. Its corporate responsibility policies enable Sun Life to commit to supporting essential causes in health and wellness, arts and culture, and economic and environmental sustainability.
